      Description
On my way to bed, I play with a tiger, a lobster and a bear – and lots of other creatures too. But why are they so familiar? In this celebration of imaginative play, a young child is surrounded and enriched by an extended and diverse family. Inclusive and playful, this is the ideal bedtime read.
      Bio

A graduate of Hornsey College of Art, she spent many years in the USA, working as a textile designer, teacher, writer and mother. Jana has written more than forty books for children, including Read my Lips, the prizewinning story exploring the communication choices of a Deaf girl.

As a conference speaker and lecturer, Jana focuses on the relationship between image and text in picture books, expertise that has led to her becoming an editor as well as a reviewer. At home with kids of all ages, Jana loves to visit schools and libraries, or to run writing workshops.

Kay is a freelance illustrator based in Chorlton, Manchester. Bio

I was born in 1979 and in 2001, I graduated from the European Institute of Design in Milan, where I lived for a few years. I now live and work in the North of Italy, on the side of Maggiore one of the most beautiful Italian landscapes. From my studio window I can see the lake and mountains which is good for inspiration.

I've been working as an illustrator of children's books since 2002, illustrating books in Italy and in the UK, where I have published books with Child's Play, Allegra Publishing, Franklin Watts and Usborne.

I've loved children's books since my childhood and grew up with a special love for English literature. As a child my favourite author was Roald Dahl and my favourite illustrators were Quentin Blake, Beatrix Potter, Arthur Rackham and Cicely Mary Barker.

Since I can remember I've always been drawing and making creative handicrafts, such as puppets and little toys. I was an imaginative child and even now I use fantasy not only in my work, but also to get the best from everyday life.

      Bio

I am Italian and I live and work in Ferrara. It is a very nice ancient city with a castle, walls and parks. I love it!

When I was a little girl I was fond of drawing and I loved fairy tales, and so I decided that I wanted to become an illustrator for children’s books. Following a long career as an illustrator and graphic designer in advertising and working with children as an educator, I was able to realise my initial purpose in 2004.

Now if someone asks me ‘What is your job?’ at last I can answer ‘I’m an illustrator for children!’ with a big smile!

It’s hard being an older sister when everybody is admiring your newly born younger brother – particularly on your birthday. Especially when that younger brother is noisy, smelly and slimy – just like a tiny squid! How can our hero grab everyone’s attention, and grow to love her brother in the process? This quirky, exuberant picture book reminds us of the power of the imagination, and shows us how telling stories can help us order and deal with our experiences.
