      Description
The Spine Chillers is an episodic comic strip relating to the little known story about the time the world's greatest writers shared a small boarding house, living together to create some of the most loved thrillers and horror stories of all time. Marvel at HP Lovecraft's inspiration for Cthulhu, gasp as Ambrose Bierce struggles under the weight of his own creative output, and marvel as Edgar Allan Poe and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle mud wrestle to determine once and for all who is the better horror writer. Comic genius Ben Clark is the creative talent behind the strip. "My idea for the comic strip was to take the writers from The Spine Chillers audiobook series, and have them all live together in a grotty, 1950s style boarding house, with a serious boss of a landlady called Mrs Parkinson, who may have sinister plans of her own. I thought the boarding house backdrop provided the most scope for stories, conflict and most importantly, jokes. One thing I have to stress is that it is not my intention to belittle or insult these wonderful writers, many of whom are among my greatest heroes. I'll be taking the Mickey, but in an affectionate way. What I always attempt in my comics is to be silly, and to make people laugh. The characters I am working on are of course not how these men were in real life, but a daft alternate version, which hopefully people will find amusing!? Volume 1 collects the first two year run of comic strips, all the way from ?Feet!? through to ?Meet Cthulhu.? Genuinely funny whilst also at times tender and touching, The Spine Chillers collection is a welcomed cultured tonic during these trying times.
      Bio
Early exposure to 2000AD left Ben Clark unfit for anything but a life in comics. One of the mainstays of the award winning anthology Solar Wind, his work has also appeared in Zarjaz, Omnivistascope, and his own line of Magic Beans Comics like Mothman About The House, Lenny Biscuits, I Cashed A Dead Man's Pension, Nessie Vs Dracula and Mike Neville Adventures. He is currently working on his first children's book, about a Vampire that owns a submarine. He lives in the North East of England and eats a lot of crisps.

      Description
Collecting the best of Bogart Creek, Derek Evernden?s laugh out loud funny, single-panel comics of absurd and dark humour. Similar in style to The Far Side, Bogart Creek is a perfect book for washroom reading.
      Bio
Derek Evernden is a recovering Torontonian now living in the peaceful Village of Milo, Alberta. He is the creator of Bogart Creek, an ongoing single-panel comic of absurd and dark humour. He is also developing a sci-fi horror comic about a monkey, a pig, and a psychopath on a murderous rampage, and a children's book about a camera-shy girl and the bizarre events that take place when she is forced to be photographed for her school's Picture Day. The rest of the time he works as a full time illustrator in a range of fields from caricature to storyboards and concept art.  I was born in Edmonton (my Mom's from there and my Dad's parents were in Lethbridge), we moved to Toronto when I was 3, then to Newmarket when I was 9.  It was in Newmarket that I discovered Bogart Creek, which ran through the Pickering College farmlands behind our house where my brother and I spent most of our time climbing trees, shooting bows and arrows, and fighting dragons. I used the name because it reminds me of my childhood 'playground'. I lived in downtown Toronto following University until about 3 years ago when we'd had enough of traffic, transit, cockroaches and crowds and drove across the country, ultimately arriving in Milo by way of Blairmore, where we stayed 3-4 months in the Gushul Art Studio (run by the University of Lethbridge). So we went from downtown T.O. to a village in rural AB, population 122.

Stuffed with killer clowns, sarcastic, blood-thirsty predators and witty psychopaths, Bogart Creek is as funny as it is flat-out wrong. With every God-forsaken panel, demented "artist" Derek Evernden challenges readers to find black humour in the twisted, the grotesque and the charmingly bizarre. This is comedy gold for people who think Garfield would be better with a body count. Strange cartoons for an even stranger world.' - Sean K. Robb, Writer & Filmmaker
'Bogart Creek is a hickey on the neck of a flower-throwing broken-hearted poetry-spewing Burgundian Medieval cobbler, throbbing and swollen and passionate and loony.  It appears that cartoonist Derek Evernden is a keeper.' - Wes Tyrell, President, Association of Canadian Cartoonists
