Shortlisted for the 2021 Gourmand Award for Best in the World - Drink Culture!

From award-winning author of Canadian Whisky, Davin de Kergommeaux, comes a definitive guide to over 200 distilleries across Canada and the array of spirits they make.

The Definitive Guide to Canadian Distilleries is an indispensable guide to the past, present and future of Canada’s distilleries. Written by bona fide Canadian spirits expert Davin de Kergommeaux, this book covers more than 200 of the most exciting and cutting-edge distilleries, large and small, who are shaping the industry today.

Just a decade ago, fewer than a dozen distilleries, concentrated in two provinces, produced almost all the spirits (mainly whisky) made in Canada. Today, there is a movement afoot in Canada’s spirits world. There has never been a better selection of rich specialty spirits—from gin to moonshine, from flavoured vodka to liqueurs—to tempt the palate and supplement your long-time favourites. Despite flourishing public enthusiasm for Canada’s distillers, other than incomplete and inaccurate web-based information, no one has offered consumers an all-inclusive guide…until now.

Using a trademark (and witty) blend of narrative, tasting notes, inventive cocktail recipes and vibrant photos, de Kergommeaux shares the unique genesis of each of these distillers who are pushing the boundaries and flavours of spirits of all kinds. Divided geographically with suggested distillery routes, and filled with key tour information as well as breakout features of the most exciting people and spirits today, The Definitive Guide to Canadian Distilleries is a treasured souvenir and fun companion to the distilleries in every corner of the country, and a must-have guide for curious drinkers and expert connoisseurs alike.
DAVIN DE KERGOMMEAUX is a drinks writer, public speaker and spirits judge, recognized as the world expert on Canadian whisky. He has travelled to four continents to visit spirits producers and distilleries, and make presentations about Canadian spirits. In 2016 the Globe and Mail named him one of the 50 most influential Canadians in food and drink, then in 2018 the New York Times said his significance in the revival of Canadian whisky could not be overstated.

BLAIR PHILLIPS is a lifestyle and spirits writer specializing in Canada’s growing landscape of spirits and distilleries. He is the Canadian contributing editor for Whisky Magazine and writes for the popular Distiller app. He also contributed features for during the TV Series’ three season run. He judges several spirits competitions including the World Whisky Awards and Canadian Whisky Awards.

Canadian Whisky is a book every serious drinker already has on the shelf. Falastin is a soulful tour of Palestinian cookery today from Ottolenghi’s Executive Chef Sami Tamimi, with 120 highly cookable recipes contextualized by his personal narrative of the Palestine he grew up in.

The story of Palestine’s food is really the story of its people. When the events of 1948 forced people from all the regions of Palestine together into one compressed land, recipes that were once closely guarded family secrets were shared and passed between different groups in an effort to ensure that they were not lost forever. In Falastin, Tamimi retraces the lineage and evolution of his country’s cuisine, born of its agriculturally optimal geography, many distinct regional cooking traditions, and, ultimately, Palestinian cooks’ ingenuity and resourcefulness as the country’s foodways mingled and morphed. From the recipes of refugee-camp cooks to the home kitchens of Gaza and the mill of a master tahini maker, Tamimi teases out the vestiges of an ancient cuisine while recording the derivations of a dynamic cuisine and the stories of the people of Palestine—as told from the kitchen.
SAMI TAMIMI was born and raised in Jerusalem and was immersed in food from childhood. He started his career as commis-chef in a Jerusalem hotel and worked his way up, through many restaurants and ethnic traditions, to become head chef of Lilith, one of the top restaurants in Tel Aviv in the 1990’s. The company now has four stores and two restaurants, NOPI and ROVI, all in central London. As the executive head chef, Sami is involved in developing and nurturing young kitchen talents and creating new dishes and innovative menus. Alongside Yotam Ottolenghi, Sami Tamimi is co-author of two bestselling cookbooks: Ottolenghi: The Cookbook (Ebury, UK, 2008; Ten Speed, US, 2012) and Jerusalem: A Cookbook (Ebury, UK, and Ten Speed, US, 2012) TARA WIGLEY spent a decade working in publishing—at the Abner Stein Literary Agency in London and then Simon & Schuster—before going to cookery school in Ireland. She has developed, tested, and writen recipes for Ottolenghi’s weekly column in the Guardian magazine and monthly New York Times’s columns, as well as for his cookbooks. For Falastin, Tara has travelled with Tamimi in Palestine and eaten her body weight in chickpeas and tahini.

“This is a beautiful book and I want to cook every single recipe in it.”—Nigella Lawson

“Sami Tamimi and Tara Wigley’s beautiful Falastin is a love letter to Palestine—its warm and hospitable people and its bright and mouthwatering cuisine. A cookbook should make you dream, it should invite you to an expanding table, and, more important, it should make you drop everything and head straight to the kitchen. This book does all that. One day I hope to visit Sami’s homeland; but until then, with Sami as my host and Tara as my guide, I’ll let the scents and flavors of the Palestinian kitchen take me there as I pull up extra seats at my table to share this colorful and soulful food with family and friends.”—Naz Deravian, author of Bottom of the Pot

“A stunning collection of recipes and stories that showcase the best of Palestinian culture. I want to eat everything in this book”—Yasmin Khan, author of Zaitoun and The Saffron Tales

Falastin is not a political book; it’s a people book. But most of all, it’s a cookbook that translates the rich culinary history of traditional Palestine into healthy, vibrant food for the twenty-first-century table.”—177 Milk Street

“[A] celebration of Palestinian cooking…Adding to the overall connection between words and stomach are elegant photographs and additional instructions…. The temptation to try [all the recipes] is almost overwhelming. Expect enthusiastic demand from home cooks and foodie readers.”Booklist (starred review)
“[An] expert dive into the food of Palestine. The dishes overflow with bold flavors…. Like the best cookbooks, this one opens a window to expand both palates and minds.”Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“A love letter to palestinian food.” — Chatelaine

Feeding friends—and feeding yourself—is an unfussy affair with social media superstar and newly minted New York Times columnist Alison Roman

Just as Martha Stewart introduced a generation to entertaining nearly forty years ago, so now Alison Roman reinvents the dinner party as a relaxed gathering for our current culture where dining out is increasingly expensive and everyone is craving down time connecting with friends. In Nothing Fancy, Alison brings her signature laid-back, approachable style and visually stunning recipes that are high on wow factors and low on effort to dishes designed to be enjoyed with others, whether for an impromptu Tuesday dinner with a neighbor or a Saturday-night hang with the gang. From a special plate of lamb chops “for the table” to a who-doesn’t-love-a-baked-potato bar to Overnight Foccacia Tonight, each of these 150 recipes is brand new and signature Alison. Here, too, are plenty of Alison-isms, such as forget wine pairings and drink what you like, don’t stress about parsley stems, and yes, you can ask the guests to help with the dishes.
ALISON ROMAN is a columnist for the New York Times Food section and Bon Appétit. The author of Dining In, she is a social media, lifestyle celebrity known for her casual yet fashionable style whether in the kitchen or out in the world and is featured in ads for J. Crew, Madewell, Bumble, Kerrygold, and more. Alison has worked professionally in kitchens such as New York’s Momofuku Milk Bar and San Francisco’s Quince. A native of Los Angeles, she lives in Brooklyn.

“Ms. Roman offers recipes in Nothing Fancy that are crunchy, cheesy, tangy, citrusy, fishy, smoky and spicy. . . . They work, and not only for company . . . squash scattered with spiced pistachios or pasta with chorizo bread crumbs and broccoli rabe could appear anytime. For dinner parties, she provides cocktail recipes, extra snacks and pep talks so urgent and encouraging that having people over for leg of lamb and tiramisù suddenly seems like a bucket-list event.”—Julia Moskin, The New York Times

“Roman makes food more interesting. . . . [Nothing Fancy] has a why-didn’t-I-think-of-that simplicity.”The New Yorker

“[Roman] could offer a master’s program in Approachable Recipe. . . . [Nothing Fancy is] a manual not just for dinner, but for life.”The Washington Post

Nothing Fancy is like an all-access pass to [Roman’s] stunning-yet-relaxed recipes.”HuffPost, “Best Cookbooks to Give as Gifts”

“The title of this book says it all. Alison Roman delivers relaxed-but-impressive, easily executed, people-pleasing food like single-pot dishes of aromatic coconut-braised chicken and chickpeas and sheets of lemon turmeric tea cake.”Forbes

“The recipes will provide well for friendly dinner parties, while still being straightforward enough to cook quickly on a midweek evening after work.”Vogue

“Roman's recipes are elegant but straightforward, impressive but actionable, with an emphasis on easy vegetables (like peppers with yuzu), homespun desserts (like blackberry and cornmeal cake), and show-stopping entrees (like lamb chops for the table).”Esquire

“This follow-up to Dining In answers the perennial question of what to serve when people are coming over as only Alison can: with legit fun ideas—Pizza Night! Baked Potato Bar!—and unfussy recipes. (I’ve already bookmarked ‘A Very Good Lasagna’ and ‘Casual Apple Tart.’)”—Julia Kramer, deputy editor, Bon Appétit

Nothing Fancy’s recipes are on-trend but unpretentiously so. . . . Most relevant of all is Roman’s attitude toward hosting: that all of us can do it, that we should embrace the imperfections of our plans, and that it’s more fun to try than to stress. . . . Roman is leading the charge in revitalizing the art of gathering your community around the dinner table.”Eater

“In her signature wry voice, Roman lays out simple and elegant recipes, recipes including spritzes, coconut-braised chicken and chickpeas, celery and fennel with walnuts and blue cheese, and more. It’s worth noting that one of our editors already took a crack at the lemony turmeric tea cake, to delicious results. (Also worth mentioning: the DIY martini bar.)”Food & Wine

“This has to be one of the most anticipated cookbooks of the year—Alison Roman’s Dining In is a modern day classic, and her new work is sure to join it on scores of ‘best’ lists soon enough. It focuses on having people over for dinners that are the opposite of fussy, but are still festive (just witness the DIY martini bar guide within its pages for proof).”Chowhound

“In this follow-up to the award-winning Dining In, [Roman] transitions her signature breezy panache to that most fear-inspiring topic: entertaining (or, as Roman likes to call it, ‘having people over’). But the recipes are just as laid-back and uncomplicated to attempt on an average weeknight, when you're cooking for yourself.”Food52

Bright, clean, and hip recipes to enchant vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike, from plant-based haven Café Gratitude.

Before it was a fixture on the LA dining scene and a magnet for celebrity diners, Café Gratitude was founded with the simple ethos that joy derives from loving and being grateful for food, health, and good company. The dishes are named to double as affirmations of self. “I Am Fearless,” “I Am Humble,” and “I Am Open-Hearted” nod to the restaurant’s core belief that food is just as much about spirit as it is about appetite. Since its beginnings, the café has changed locations, expanded, and been the backdrop for countless paparazzi shots. But the founding principles have remained the same, and the food continues to celebrate the flavors of plants with organic, from-scratch, and healthful ingredients free of animal products, gluten, processed soy, and, in almost all cases, refined sweeteners.

Now, with Love is Served, Dreux Ellis, executive chef at Café Gratitude, brings Gratitude-quality meals to your table and the soul and mission of the restaurant to your home. Indulge in café favorites “I Am Awakening” (raw key lime pie) and “I Am Passionate” (black lava cake) while cooking up hearty, nourishing dishes like Grilled Polenta with Mushroom Ragout (“I Am Warm-Hearted”) and Radicchio, Roasted Butternut Squash, and Sundried Tomato Pesto Pizza (“I Am Gracious”). With unfussy methods and easy-to-access ingredients, this cookbook makes the wholesome satisfaction of the restaurant as accessible as ever for the home cook as it charms and inspires readers to change the way they look at food.
CHEF DREUX ELLIS oversees the development and execution of the organic, plant-based menu at all Café Gratitude restaurants in Southern California. In April 2012, Dreux went to Venice, California as Executive Chef of Café Gratitude in Southern California, bringing his health-based, flavor driven cuisine to a wider audience. He now oversees the culinary direction at all the restaurants in Southern California. Café Gratitude is a vibrant global community of joyous gathering places where people come together to enjoy food and life.
