Part meditation, part confession, part comedy bit, The Loneliness Machine—Aaron Giovannone’s first full-length collection of poetry—is a strikingly new rendition of the trope of the suffering artist that takes dramatic risks and rarely fails to charm.

Aaron Giovannone is a poet, critic, translator, and teacher. His publications include the chapbook Castelliri (No Press, 2007), as well as poems, reviews and articles in numerous periodicals. He is currently working on a new English translation of twentieth-century Italian poet Sandro Penna. Aaron spent a year at the Università di Siena with funding from the International Council for Canadian Studies, and has been the recipient of grants from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. Originally from St. Catharines in Ontario’s Niagara Region, Aaron is now completing a PhD in English and creative writing at the University of Calgary.

“With Wordsworthian ease and Conner family grit, Aaron Giovannone’s Loneliness Machine is a most welcome debut. Funny, heartfelt, edging itself where social media and poetry meet, a voice emerges that is tender, aware, and always attuned to the craft.”—David McGimspey, author of Sitcom and Li’l Bastard
