Writer, essayist and literary critic, Quebec-born Lise Gauvin is the author of numerous books, both fiction and non-fiction, and has won numerous awards, including the Prix France-Québec and the Prix Jean-Hamelin. As an essayist and novelist she has published, among others, Chez Riopelle, Visites d’atelier, Arrêts sur images, and Un automne à Paris. In 2004, her book La fabrique de la langue. De François Rabelais à Réjean Ducharme was awarded the Mention Spéciale du Jury of the Grand Prix de la critique 2004 (PEN français). Her Lettres d’une autre ou comment peut-on être québécois(e)? is in its sixth edition. Nigel Spencer has received Governor General’s Literary Awards for two consecutive translations of novels by Marie-Claire Blais Thunder and Light (2002) and Augustino and the Choir of Destruction (2007).
