"Ron Shaw is the finest new fictioneer I have seen in a long time. Black Light is a superb collection; it displays Shaw's amazing ability to occupy black and white skins and cultures simultaneously." - J. Michael Yates

Ron W. Shaw was born in 1951 on a farm near Perth, Ontario. He studied journalism at Algonquin College of Applied Arts in Ottawa, and has worked on newspapers, radio and television across the province of Ontario. Since 1974, Shaw has worked as a photographer on the island of Montserrat, building dikes in Bangladesh, on a cattle ranch in Niger, feeding war refugees in Tchad, with Palestinians in Jordan, digging village wells in Cameroun, as an advisor to the Farm Cooperative Movement in Uganda, and has directed documentary and training films in Tchad, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroun. At present, he travels extensively as a food-aid consultant in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and South America.
