A gifted storyteller takes up his craft to recount his own story, which starts with an unexpected phone call…

From the award-winning author of The Jade Peony and All That Matters, this riveting memoir from Wayson Choy recounts his memories of growing up in Chinatown, Vancouver, and how his life changed when he discovered, shortly before his 57th birthday, that he was adopted.

“Exquisitely written.”—Maclean’s magazine

“This is a haunted memoir, full of phantoms and secrets, but it is also full of rich historical detail and sharp, clear descriptions of daily life.” --Globe and Mail

“Choy’s story is a specific one, grounded in authentic details (and Choy is just the person to write them, his writing always entertaining, always alive).” --Reader’s Showcase
