To mark the publication of Leonard Cohen’s final book, The Flame, McClelland & Stewart is proud to reissue six beautiful editions of Cohen’s cherished early works of poetry, many of which are back in print for the first time in decades.

A freshly packaged new series for devoted Leonard Cohen fans and those who wish to discover one of the world’s most adored and celebrated writers.

Originally published by McClelland & Stewart in 1978, Death of a Lady’s Man reinvented Cohen on the printed page, featuring a daring series of poems and prose poems, each of which is addressed—and often rebutted—in accompanying pieces of commentary. Maddening, thrilling, and truly singular, Cohen’s sixth book contains some of the most challenging and startling work of his oeuvre. It is a genre-busting masterpiece well ahead of its time.

FOR FANS: This is a gift collection for Cohen’s avid book-buying audience, which spans generations. It is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to celebrate Cohen’s body of work and legacy as an artist and ensure that his works continue to occupy a unique space in the public imagination.

TITLES PREVIOUSLY OUT OF PRINT: Notable poetry collections by Leonard Cohen have been out of print for decades. This is an opportunity for fans new and old alike to connect—or reconnect—with his backlist work.

PUBLICATION OF THE FLAME: We are reissuing Cohen’s deep backlist of poetry and his two novels alongside the October 2018 global publication of The Flame, with all of the ensuing media coverage and content launching to celebrate Leonard Cohen.

DESIGNED AS A COLLECTION: The front cover design of each book picks up elements from both The Flame and Book of Mercy covers with spine designs that will form a gorgeous collection on a bookshelf.

LEONARD COHEN’s artistic career began in 1956 with the publication of his first book of poetry, Let Us Compare Mythologies. He published two novels, The Favourite Game and Beautiful Losers, and ten books of poetry, including Stranger Music: Selected Poems and Songs and Book of Longing. During a recording career that spanned almost fifty years, he released fourteen studio albums, the last of which, You Want It Darker, was released in 2016. Cohen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010, and was awarded the Glenn Gould prize in 2011. He died on November 7, 2016.
