Filling a void: There is such a need and market for fun, helpful books geared toward kids on the spectrum. Samantha Cotterill has already been getting an overwhelming response.
#ownvoices: This series is very near and dear to Samantha’s heart: She herself is on the autism spectrum, and is very close to others on the spectrum as well.
Not just for kids on the autism spectrum: The introduction to new foods might be more overwhelming for a child with autism than for a neurotypical child, but many kids start out as picky eaters.
Entertaining and useful, too: On the surface, the stories told in this series are fun, lighthearted, and sweet, but they also contain powerful tools for parents with sensitive kids, and a wonderful way for sensitive kids to see themselves.
A proven method: The parent in this book utilizes a strategy for food introduction embraced by Dr. Emily Kuschner, PhD, of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
More to come: The next two Little Senses books will pub in Spring and Fall 2020.
“A delightful book that reminds us all to try something new, even if it’s ’yacky!’” —Kirkus Reviews
“A good choice for children who have sensory issues or are simply picky eaters” —School Library Journal
