Pre-Existing Fan Base: Keiichi Arawi has been one of the most beloved manga artists from Japan since his debut in 2006. Having a pair of animated series and two hit manga titles under his belt, Arawi’s base has swelled over the last few years.
Pent up Demand: Vertical Comics regularly hosts readers surveys asking our fan base what new titles they wish to see licensed. Ever since its Japanese debut last year (Sept 2016) CITY has repeatedly been at or near the top of readers’ wish lists. The property, like Arawai himself, has been in high demand and the CITY license was, and still is, one of the most highly contested licenses to come out of Japan in recent memory.
Relatable Lead Character: CITY’s lead is someone fans could easily relate to. A young poor college student must find her way in the big city while trying to keep her eyes on the prize. Teens and young adults these days can relate to these universal themes and hopefully they’ll find humor in their own struggles as well.
"Some of the funniest humor in life is the nonsensical. To take a serious moment and reduce it into a ridiculous situation can calm the soul and help add a little perspective on life. That is what CITY by Keiichi Arawi is all about. […] If you enjoy the absurd or like being reminded that life can be entertaining even when it seems boring, this is the manga for you.” — Adventures in Poor Taste
