Includes the latest research on Matrescence, an anthropological term revived by Dr Aurelie Athans at Columbia University.
Matrescence refers to the transition from woman to mother, just as adolescence is the transition from child to adult. This transformation starts with pregnancy, and does not ’finish’ for as long as a woman is raising her children. In today’s society, this transition has been completely ignored, misunderstood and dismissed. So far only talked about in academic circles and on one Ted talk, this is the first known book that addresses matrescence in mainstream language, for the 21st Century mother.
