Cover and card illustrations from HUGH THOMSON. Hugh Thomson was one of the most popular and successful book illustrators of the Victorian era. Born in Ireland in 1860, he was trained in Belfast and moved to England where he worked for MacMillan & Co from 1883 on. He illustrated all six of Jane's novels among other literary classics including works by Charles Dickens, William Makepeace Thackeray, and R.B. Sheridan. His original black and white line work has been colored for a soft, classic look.
