August 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which confirmed women’s right to vote. A Vote for Women is a joint venture between the Women’s Vote Centennial Initiative (WVCI)—an organization created to share information and stimulate activities around the country to mark the centennial—and the publisher St James’s House, and has been produced to celebrate this landmark in women’s suffrage.
This fully illustrated, beautifully designed hardback book charts the history of the women’s movement’s battle for the ballot, and the advances that have resulted from that victory. In addition to recounting the extensive history of U.S. women’s suffrage, the book brings together key stories of current best practice in the field of equality and women’s issues. It also offers an insight into Congress and several major U.S. government departments, exploring their current activities and initiatives, and the contributions they have made in shaping the United States of today.
A Vote for Women has been researched, written, and designed to the highest of standards, and features contributions from the likes of the National Park Service and the National Women’s History Museum, as well as a wide selection of striking archival photography. The book is being promoted as part of the WVCI’s ongoing national celebrations, which have been extended into 2021 due to the impact of Covid-19 and the desire to bring the centennial story to as large an audience as possible.
