  • Short Description

Ciel and their friends are back in this new book for teens as they deal with the difficulties of growing up and dating, not to mention keeping up at school.

Ciel and their friends are growing up, and there are big challenges ahead.

The glaciers are melting and the climate crisis is on their mind, but nothing shakes the foundations of non-binary teen Ciel’s world more than sharing an unexpected kiss with their best friend, Stephie. Everything they thought was clear is suddenly all mixed up—and that’s without the new problems at school: sexting, peer pressure, and overdue book reports.

In this new book for teens, Sophie Labelle’s beloved characters first introduced in Ciel and Ciel in All Directions are leaving childhood behind and grappling with new questions of identity, loyalty, and how to negotiate dating and relationships in the age of social media.

Key Selling Points

  • Featuring the same characters as Ciel and Ciel in All Directions, this standalone shows Ciel and their friends (and romantic interests) navigating the pressures and pitfalls of being a teen
  • Ciel faces a handful of conflicts, some timeless (feelings for a friend) and some more modern (sexting)
  • A book about a trans character that doesn’t focus on the character’s transition or dwell on challenging aspects of being trans.
  • Sophie Labelle’s webcomic, Assigned Male, features the character of Ciel and has a huge following on a number of different online platforms.
  • Sophie’s facebook page (@lasophielabelle) has more than 180,000 followers, and she also has popular followings on Instagram, @labellesophie (Over 35,000 followers), Twitter (14,000 followers) and web/comic platforms.

Sophie Labelle is an internationally renowned visual artist and author from the South shore of Montreal, in French Canada. She is the transgender cartoonist behind Assigned Male, a webcomic about a group of queer and trans teenagers that has been running since 2014 and has touched millions of readers. She lives in Finland.

"This latest installment in Ciel’s daily adventures shifts into high gear from the first page... The rambling narration balances snark and sincerity. Ciel’s openness about their queerness and neurodivergence is at once playful and vulnerable... Unapologetic and critically engaged."

- Kirkus Reviews

“Relatable, gently funny, and achingly real, Wish Upon a Satellite is a teen story both timely and timeless.”

- Open Book

“Labelle is in no short supply of her quirky comedic sense … If you want a cozy comfort read about trans friends just living the minutiae of life, then give this one a read. Trans friends! Just hanging out! Not dying!”

- Melis Amber, Geek Girl Authority
