  • Short Description

In this traditional Inuit story, a father must find and rescue his child from the lair of this ogress.

A traditional Inuit story told by an Elder.

In this faithful retelling of a traditional story from the Kugaaruk region, told by Elder Levi Illuitok, a father must save his infant child from an amajurjuk, an ogress known to steal children. When the ogress takes advantage of the child’s mother being blind to trick her into giving away her child, the child’s father embarks on a quest to save his infant from certain death.

  • The illustrations are very scary, even though format is a picture book.
  • A faithful retelling of a traditional story from the Kugaaruk region of Nunavut, told by Elder Levi Illuitok.
  • Many Inuit traditional stories have never been written down before. Many of the stories that we publish have never been written down before, having existed for centuries as tales passed orally from generation to generation. In this case, we have worked closely with the Elder to present this story to modern audiences around the world. This book provides a glimpse into Inuit culture and also represents the preservation of oral history that may otherwise have been lost.
