  • Short Description
This nonfiction book for middle-grade readers examines the biology, habitat and mythology of, threats to and latest research on sharks. It asks us to look at sharks as friends not foes.
Friends not foes

Explore the latest science about sharks.

Did you know that some sharks have friends? Or that there are sharks small enough to swim in a soup can? There are sharks who can walk on land and others who make their own light. There are ancient sharks who lived in the oceans millions of years ago, and new species who have just been discovered. Most importantly, did you know that most sharks are fighting for their survival?

Sharks Forever takes a deep dive into the lives of sharks––their habitat, biology, habits and personalities. It also looks at the biggest threats to their existence, from marine pollution and overfishing to bycatch and shark-fin soup. It goes beyond the bites and shares stories about people who swim with sharks and call them friends.

Key Selling Points

  • Sharks Forever debunks the myths about how dangerous sharks are and asks readers to look at them in a new light.
  • Includes the latest science on sharks all over the world and discusses the threats facing sharks, including the destruction of habitat and food sources due to marine pollution and climate change.
  • Introduces the stories of people, including young people, who swim with sharks, advocate for them and call them friends.
  • Mark Leiren-Young is an award-winning author of a number of books, including Orcas Everywhere; Big Whales, Small World and Big Sharks, Small World (releasing in the same season as Sharks Forever).
  • Mark Leiren-Young loves sharks almost as much as he loves orcas! He interviewed legendary filmmaker and shark defender Rob Stewart numerous times about why he fought for their protection and helped promote Rob’s third documentary film about sharks. Since Rob's death, Mark has continued to spread his message about protecting sharks and oceans.

Mark Leiren-Young is an award-winning author, screenwriter, playwright and filmmaker. He has written TV shows for young viewers (including cartoons) for Netflix, CBC, ABC, BBC Kids and PBS.
