Cinecittà was very influential on Fellini, and it was the place where he filmed such masterpieces as La Dolce Vita and Satyricon.
More recently, the film studio has been home to a number of high-profile and cult movies, including Ben Stiller’s Zoolander2 (2015), Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic (2004), Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ (2004), and Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York (2002).
A permanent exhibition at the studio titled “Cinecittà Shows Off” traces its history: scenes, costumes, sets, characters, actors, directors, and producers are shown in an educational and interactive environment where visitors can discover the world of filmmaking. In addition, visitors can walk through several large permanent sets. Since April 2011, the exhibition has had over 110,000 visitors.
In July 2014, the studio opened a movie-themed amusement park called Cinecittà World, designed by Dante Ferretti, three-time Academy Award winner for art direction who has worked with Fellini, Pasolini, and Scorsese.
