  • Short Description
A journalist finds himself in the midst of the hunt for a brutal serial killer who is murdering women in Vancouver's West End.
For women in the West End, it's become too dangerous to be fit.

A brutal serial killer is murdering women in Vancouver's West End. On a seemingly insane rampage, he leaves their headless bodies to be found and writes taunting letters to the police. It soon becomes apparent that all his victims are members of the neighborhood fitness center. Sebastian Casey, a reporter with the weekly community newspaper, has just begun to work out at the center. As he gets to know some of the others who use the facility, Casey finds himself drawn into the search for the killer. His interest intensifies when he begins a tentative relationship with Emma Shaughnessy, a local schoolteacher, whose good looks and fitness regime makes her a prime candidate to be the killer's next victim.

A former fingerprint specialist with the Vancouver Police Department, James Heneghan was one of Canada's foremost authors of historical fiction for children and young adults. His books won numerous awards, including the Sheila A. Egoff Children's Literature Award three times for Flood, Wish Me Luck and The Grave.

"A quick read for those that like to watch crime TV shows, the plot is very action-oriented and will keep the reader guessing. The characters are believable and the setting is crime-scene realistic. Readers will be intrigued as to how the serial killer chooses his victims and what his MO is." - VOYA

"As the search for the killer intensifies, so does the pace of the novel. In just 141 pages, Heneghan makes his characters come alive...[and] provides just enough detail to make the victim's terror absolutely visceral." - CM Magazine

"[A] fast-paced thriller...The Rapid Reads line of books is perfect for the adult on the go who desires an intriguing read that can be devoured in one sitting." - Southwestern Ohio Young Adult Materials Review Group
